Who’s A Good Boy

Bory, introduces Who’s A Good Boy, his energetic and lively debut album. Portland residents Bory, aka Brenden Ramirez, with producer and friend Mo Troper bring the record to life, reflecting his traditions and cultural identity. Ramirez soars on this joyful fast-tempo record, as Blue Broderick provides the songwriting inspiration, with influences by Elliott Smith on the guitar. As the mood shifts, from rhythm guitar, drums to piano, the duo expertly combine, proving themselves to be one of the many rising power-pop acts.

RAT WARS

Rat Wars is the sixth studio album by American noise rock band Health. On their heaviest record to date, the band express the ups and downs of modern life, with bleak lyrics and gloomily soundscapes, mixed with crunching guitars and thrashing riffs, all filled with dread. Jacob Duzsik and co unleash their rage, on this loud, ominous, pounding record, with trouncing electronics from start to finish. Rat Wars is a triumph and further proof that Health are one of the most exciting bands active today.

The Roads

Jonah Kagen | Arista Records

Multifaceted artist Jonah Kagen presents The Roads, his long-anticipated EP. On a journey of self-discovery, the singer and songwriter from Savannah, Georgia, is an artist on the rise. Inspired by guitarist Andy McKee, Kagen’s soft acoustic guitar lines and remarkable vocals combine exquisitely, whilst his rhythms linger in the air. With pop and rock elements, although short, this folk record is wonderfully curated, and well worth a listen.

Albion

Harp | Bella Union

Ex-Midlake frontman and songwriter Tim Smith introduces Albion, as part of a new project called Harp. Tim Smith’s first album as Harp is a joint project with his wife, Kathi Zung, following his departure from the Texan folk rock band in 2012. Inspired by The Cure, Smith said “That music really resonated with me, so I was led in a different direction”. With mood, drama and fine detail, Smith’s melodies and poetic lyrics provide a beautiful landscape, which help capture his own unique sound.

Owl Song

Ambrose Akinmusire | Nonesuch

Owl Song is the new album from acclaimed American trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. The avant-garde jazz composer collaborates with long admired guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Herlin Riley on his new record. With rapturous harmonies, swirling jazz grooves and folk-like simplicity, Akinmusire spectacularly shapes eight mesmerising pieces of music. Owl Song is the first of three records Akinmusire is releasing over the next 12 months, which is sure to delight those following his impeccable work.
