Fleshwater | Closed Casket Activities
Both dizzying and pulsating, grunge-gaze band Fleshwater are unpredictable on their debut album We’re Not Here to Be Loved. Vocalist Anthony DiDio says “It’s like the music is attached to the mood rather than lumped into a genre. There are so many different elements. Fleshwater is never one thing.” Influenced by the likes of Hum and Björk, the punchy anthemic riffs are catchy, moody and full of charisma.

Phoenix | Loyauté and Glassnote Records
Recorded in Paris’ Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Phoenix’s first album in five years reminds us that their energy has not wavered. Alpha Zulu is the seventh studio album by the French indie pop band, which is self-produced. An engaging record, full of fun, this is a huge return to form and a clear indication of the bands influence on pop culture.

Weyes Blood | Sub Pop
The fifth album from Natalie Mering, aka Weyes Blood, is beautifully composed and wonderfully arranged. Sentimental, poetic, Natalie’s vocals are comforting and soothing, with enchanting lyricism and grand instrumentals to match. And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow brings it all together, living up to all expectations. It’s a huge step forward for Weyes Blood.

Sault | Forever Living Originals
The mysterious and ambitious Sault are back with a bang, releasing four albums in one month. We concentrate on 11, the bands seventh studio album. On 11, their cryptic sound, with orchestral soundscapes is fascinating. The secretive British funk band have always avoided the media, yet their incredible blend of rap, psychedelic punk, R&B, house and jazz cannot be ignored.

Special Interest | Rough Trade Records
New Orleans no-wave punks Special Interest introduce their third studio album Endure. Striking, politically charged, angry and impactful, the tone they set from track one is alluring. With weaving bass lines and menacing acid guitar riffs, the album is full of poignant observations and infectious melodies. There is no doubt whatsoever that Special Interest know how to convey their message.
