9 Sad Symphonies

Kate Nash | Kill Rock Stars

English singer-songwriter Kate Nash introduces 9 Sad Symphonies, her uplifting fifth studio album. After a six year absence, Nash returns to her roots, with a style that fans from her ‘Foundations’ days will appreciate, featuring her quick-witted deadpan lyrics. Though it may not hit the same heights, it’s a solid record, inspired by Hollywood romance, as she reflects on mundane everyday life. Amusing, fun and engaging - despite shifting to acting in recent years, here’s hoping we wont have to wait so long to hear her again.

As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again

The Decemberists | YABB Records

With their distinctive folk-rock, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again is the ninth studio album from American indie rockers The Decemberists. The Portland veterans, now an independent band, put everything into their latest record, with frontman Colin Meloy saying “It's a culmination of everything that we've tried to do from the beginning of our career.” The final track is a nearly 20-minute epic called “Joan in the Garden”, a veiled Joan Of Arc retelling that recalls the band’s early material. Embracing their eccentricity, this is amongst their best work to date.
