The Roksan TMS3 turntable, released in 2008, was a culmination of precision engineering and innovative design, offering vinyl enthusiasts an unparalleled listening experience. Paired with the Roksan Caspian DC Power Supply DS1.5, this high-end system set a new standard for sound quality and information retrieval from vinyl records.
A key aspect of the TMS3 was its commitment to eliminating unwanted vibrations, which are critical to achieving optimal sound reproduction. The four-tier plinth structure provided superb isolation, preventing vibrations from reaching the stylus and record, and effectively shielding the turntable from acoustic feedback. This multi-layered design, combined with the advanced suspension system, ensured the stylus remained perfectly aligned for accurate playback, capturing every nuance of the vinyl.
The precision-engineered main bearing system was one of the highlights of the TMS3. Constructed from super precision tungsten carbide, the spindle and bearing offered impeccable roundness and surface finish, with tolerances of less than 1 micron. This ensured remarkable stability, preventing horizontal wobble and maintaining mechanical integrity between the stylus and the record. The interference-fitted aluminium alloy inner and outer platters further contributed to the non-resonant design, enhancing the overall clarity and detail of the music.
The custom-made 24-pole synchronous motor, mounted with a unique synchronizing bearing, ensured ultra-smooth rotation with minimal wow and flutter (< 0.02%) and excellent rumble suppression (< -80dB). The precision-ground neoprene drive belt provided consistent, accurate performance, contributing to the turntable’s overall reliability.
Complementing the TMS3, the Roksan Caspian DC Power Supply DS1.5 provided ultra-low noise operation, with an output voltage of ±26 Vdc and noise levels below 10 microvolts. The power supply’s impressive specs, such as its 350 VA toroidal transformer and 240 W maximum power consumption, ensured that the turntable had a clean and stable power source, free from interference. The system's design also featured filtering, shielding, and a double-fused mains input, further enhancing its sonic purity.
